He does this by spinning a gruesome yarn about one of the McCallisters' neighbors, Old Man Marley. Kevin's introduction in the movie demonstrates just how sly and charming Macauley Culkin could make the character, and it's no mystery as to why audiences instantly loved him. When the audience is first introduced to Kevin, he's tired of his family and how they treat him.

According to the listing, Kevin's big brother Buzz—whose role in Disney+'s Home Sweet Home Alone remake found him growing up and becoming a security expert—will serve as your "host." By 1994, the actor was burnt out having appeared in 15 movies since the first release, and so took a hiatus from acting to try to live as normal a life as possible for a few years. Ever since it came out in 1990, the film has become a holiday classic, and because of its popularity, the film has spawned a number of sequels. After leaving the church, Kevin heads home and sets up various booby traps inside the house. After the two spring every trap in the house, Kevin flees to the second floor of the house and dials 911.

The 'Home Alone' movie series is an all-time favorite holiday season movie for most. Our dirty dozen holiday movie list closes with the cinematic equivalent of a nasty lump of coal shoved up the stocking of Christmas tradition. Jalmari Helander’s Rare Exports mashes up a Santa Claus origin story with the plot of John Carpenter’s The Thing to create a dark, fantasy horror film that will change forever how you think about jolly fat men in red suits.
The exchange in question takes place on board their flight to Paris, a few scenes after O’Hara, who plays Kevin’s mom, has let out a shout of “Kevin! While in the film, Uncle Frank attempts to sympathize with the McCallister parents by explaining he too forgot something—his reading glasses—in the audition room, Bamman took things in a slightly darker direction. Home Alone first hit theaters on Nov. 16, 1990 and skyrocketed Macaulay Culkin to child stardom. Since then, the story of 8-year-old Kevin’s successful foiling of Wet Bandits Harry Lyme and Marv Murchins’ plan to rob his family home has become one of the most beloved holiday movies of all time. Kevin is undeniably one of the cutest kids in the history of movies thanks to his convincingly innocent outlook on life. As he begins to really lose his temper at his family for the first time in the movie, he jumps up and down and yells this to anyone who'll listen, repeating the final words over and over.

Accidentally left behind in the shuffle of his large family's travel plans, Kevin's dream of being home alone quickly turns into a hilarious nightmare and battle of wits when a pair of bumbling thieves trying to break into his house. Not only is she the youngest of the McCallister clan, but Brooke may just be the only kid not to utter a word during the film. Instead, she's merely seen staring, wide eyes behind her glasses and her jaw hanging open as she and Fuller look up at the cop standing in the entryway. For the film, production changed the interior of the house just slightly, adding a ramp over the staircase and putting up new wallpaper.
This line actually comes from the fictional gangster movie Angels With Filthy Souls that Kevin watches. This funny line comes from the McCallisters' talkative neighbor, Mitch Murphy, who only has a brief appearance but has an important place in the story as he's part of the series of mishaps that allow Kevin to be left behind in the first place. Kevin is afraid of fairly simple unknowns in his life, like chores or the scary old furnace in the basement but Marley, towards the end of his life, is scared of unknowns like not knowing what his son will say to him after the two haven't spoken in a long time. The way that the two characters help each other with their fears is one of the many reasons that Home Alone has aged so well.

But Kevin needs affection as much as they do; as the youngest of five children, Kevin feels generally forgotten and rejected by his family, and for good reason; his family’s primary treatment towards Kevin is punishment and belittlement. While the pigeon lady symbolizes the notion of seasonal depression, Kevin represents depression caused by familial mistreatment. Sondra is an interesting character because while she doesn't appear much in the film, when she does, she never once drops her nasty nature.

Seeing the sibling interactions from Home Alone is definitely one thing that makes the movie rather realistic and relatable to anyone that has brothers or sisters. This is another quote that one of Kevin’s older siblings says to him the night before Kevin is left behind. Given that so many of his family members were saying some pretty rude things to him on the same evening, it’s easy to see why Kevin wanted them all to go away. A new crime boss, who has presumably risen to his position after murdering the former boss, says this line before skipping over most of the numbers in his count to 10 and gleefully opening fire with his Tommy Gun, much to Kevin's terror. It's a short scene but by far one of Home Alone's most famous and Kevin puts the recording to good use several times to scare off other people.
Kate and Peter's youngest son, Kevin, is the subject of ridicule by his older siblings and cousins. Kevin inadvertently ruins the family dinner after a brief scuffle with his oldest brother Buzz, in which Kevin's airplane ticket is accidentally thrown away, resulting in Kate sending him up to the attic. Kevin berates his mother for allowing the rest of the family to pick on him and wishes that his family would disappear. During the night, heavy winds create a power outage, disabling the alarm clocks and causing the family to oversleep. In the confusion and rush to get to the airport, Kevin is accidentally left behind. 103 minutesCountryUnited StatesLanguageEnglishBudget$18 millionBox office$476.7 millionHome Alone is a 1990 American Christmas comedy film directed by Chris Columbus and written and produced by John Hughes.
When the family has finally realized that they left Kevin behind, everyone is in a state of shock, Kevin's mother particularly. So when Uncle Frank thinks it's necessary to add this to the conversation, it's genuinely funny because it seems like a sincere attempt at being empathetic, but it's just coming from a hilariously inconsiderate character. As Kevin's parents attempt to admonish him for his bad behavior, he confidently runs circles around them. When his father attempts to tell Kevin to stop using the glue gun in the garage, he responds with this iconic Home Alone quote that helped define the personality of one of the 90s most beloved movie characters. While Kevin can also be rude to them, his siblings definitely are too mean at times. One of the most iconic lines of Kevin’s family being a jerk to him is this one that’s said by his older sister, Linnie.
However, others claim the extra was a man named Gary Grott who appeared in a number of Chris Columbus’ movies. John Hughes on the set of the movie 'Curley Sue' in Chicago, Illinois, on November 28, 1990. That’s right, the kid who refused to go easy on the Pepsi is now the Chief Operating Officer of Waystar Royco. Marv’s hilariously bloodcurdling scream had to be dubbed in later though, as they didn’t want to risk frightening the spider by having him do it in real time.

These moments really capture what it feels like to be a kid and to actually get some freedom. While he misses his family, he tries his best to take care of himself while they’re gone. He is clearly very thoughtful as he takes the time to be thankful for his food before eating it. This quote is extremely adorable and shows that he’s just a good-hearted kid. While he’s known to wet the bed, he keeps drinking a ton of soda anyway, and Kevin is not thrilled at the prospect of having to share a bed with him, and really who can blame him?
Since 2018, Kieran has portrayed Roman Roy on HBO's hit series Succession, earning nominations for best supporting actor at both the Emmy Awards and Golden Globes. Kieran is also a father of two, sharing son Wilder Wolf and daughter Kinsey Sioux with wife Jazz Charton. Ratray is best known for his turn as Kevin's cruel older brother, Buzz, but the actor has kept up a steady career filled with supporting roles in the decades since.

Additionally, the once hardwood floors are now decked out in white carpeting. The dining room, which featured red walls in the film, is now adorned in a warm cream color painted with vines and pear trees. Quite the improvement overall…unless you’re a diehard lover of 90s interior design.
Rarely has the absurdity of war, and faith in humans’ fundamental kindness and decency, been more poignantly expressed. The other quote people often say is “Merry Christmas, ya filthy animal,” but that line actually isn’t said in the first film but only in the sequel. But, both of these lines are really hilarious and dramatic, and people will love to say them for years to come.

Home Alone took the domestic box office by storm during the 1990 holiday season and continued to dominate throughout the first half of the following year, maintaining its No. 1 spot for 12 weeks and remaining in the top 10 until June 1991. In the process, it earned $285,761,343 and became the highest grossing movie of 1990 as well as the highest-grossing domestic live-action comedy ever. It held onto that world record until 2017 — 27 years after its release — when the Chinese blockbuster Never Say Die knocked it out of the top spot. Home Alone is one of the most popular Christmas movies ever and some of the most famous lines from the film have become common phrases that people like to share around the holidays. From Kevin McCallister to Harry and Marv, there are so many memorable characters in Home Alone, and it feels like each one has a great quote to their name.
